SPEAKING TOPICS

1/Introduce yourself:

My full name is Nguyen Tran Thuy Linh, and u can call me Linh for short. You know what, actually, my name does not have any special meanings at all. But, as what my dad told me, my name was taken after a name of a famous character in a very romantic Vietnamese love story which my parents really loved.

My full name is Vo Quang Ha, and u can call me Ha for short. You know what, actually, my name means river in Vietnamese and it is also a very common name for men in VN. And I love it.

My full name is Hoang Yen Vy, and u can call me Vy for short. You know what, actually, my name does not have any special meanings but it is a very common name for girls in Vietnam. Moreover, as what my dad told me, my name was taken after a name of a famous character in a very romantic Vnese love story which my parents really loved.

2/My hometown

I have been living here, in Can Tho, which is the biggest agricultural city in Mekong Delta in Vietnam since I was born in 1976. And I personally think this is a very good place to live and work as it has very good climate and friendly people.

I come from Hue City, which is a beautiful coastal city in the central of Vietnam and is about 1000 kilometers away from HCMC to the North. You know, my hometown is really a great place to live. It used to be the ancient capital city of VN about a thousand years ago. There are wonderful landscapes in my hometown. We have the sea, the mountain and rivers and so many other natural excellent views. Our hometown’s main industries are tourism and fishery/ agriculture . We also enjoy great climate there. Unfortunately, the climate in my hometown is a little bit harsh. It may be bitterly cold in winter but scorching hot in summer because the city lies behind the Truong Son range, the longest range of mountain in central VN. And annually, we are usually hit by storms and hurricanes in the rainy season.

3/ My favourite sports

Well, I do really love sports. I may say so because it is commonly believed that sport brings good health and helps people keep fit. Moreover, we all know that many sports games help build very necessary team work spirit like football, rugby, basketball or volley ball and they teach a lot about solidarity. Another explanation for why we love sport maybe because people can find the fun in the game. I have to confirm that it also helps build quick mind, quick reflex and durability. An additional point I wanna make is that sport is also a very profitable business. Many sportsmen can earn a fortune.

Well, like many others, I pick swimming as my most favorite sport game. You know, I love this because it brings good health and helps me keep fit. We are eating more and more rich food and unbalanced diets so this may bring many serious health problems. And swimming has been proven to be a very good exercise for our health. What I mean is that it exercises all the muscles on our body. I can also find the joy in swimming. Because I usually go swimming with my friends; and we swim together, we chat with each other and we usually have lots of fun. One more point I should not miss to mention is that when swimming, I may forget all the trouble I have in daily life. Additionally, swimming is the most popular activity in summer, especially in tropical cities like HCMC. And the best thing is that after swimming, I often enjoy the meal with better tastes than usual.

4/ Favorite flower

My favorite flower is jasmine. You know, I have loved this beautiful flower since I was a child as my house used to grow bushes of jasmine in the back yard. It was really fragrant and beautiful. Moreover, I like its color which is totally white, my favorite color. Traditionally, we usually add jasmine into tea and even cosmetic products thanks to its unique soft and good smell. Another good point from this kind of flower is that, unlike other “demanding” trees, jasmine can be grown easily like wild flowers so we usually plant them as fences/hedges for our houses. I also love perfume, bath-gel or deodorant with jasmine smell. And the last interesting thing is that Jasmine was also the name of the princess in my favorite cartoon: the Aladdin and the Genie, the best cartoon ever.

My favorite flower is Sun Flower. You know, I have loved this beautiful flower since I was a child as my house used to grow (bushes) a lot of Sun flowers in the back yard. They are really beautiful. Moreover, its color gives me strong and optimistic feelings. Traditionally, we usually arrange some Sun flower at home when Vietnamese Tet Holiday comes as/because it is generally believed that this flower may bring very good luck thanks to its strength and brightness. Another good point from this kind of flower is that people do not only grow them for decoration; we also grow them as main crops in some regions to extract its oil and seed for human consumption.

Well, you know, interestingly, VN is the current world champion of wushu, a kind of martial art originated from China, and we are proud of this title.

Well, luckily and interestingly, my house is close to a big swimming pool and a small gym so it’s really convenient for me to get to those places to work out.

Well, I wish I could be. To be honest, I love sports but I am not really keen on them or really into them so I guess that I will always be an amateur and can never be a member of a team.

Well, for sure I may pick a live event. You know, personally, I think that we will be certainly more into the game when enjoying it live. What I mean is that we can also enjoy the atmosphere of the surrounding which can never appear real on TV.

Well, to be honest, I would pick team sports. The point is that they seem to be more interesting to me. I can watch the performance of the whole team of many individuals at the same time. This case is clear with football and basketball when they require not only players’ skills but also solidarity and team work spirit.

Well, honestly, I am not type of an adventurous person so I don’t play dangerous sports but the game I may say risky to me is swimming because you know, going to beach, when swimming, I am so scared of rip currents and cramp.

Well, you know, I think it has both good and bad effects. The good things are that people can keep some memories about the places they visit or they can have some meaningful gifts for the ones they love after going to a place of interest. However, if we overly commercialize the places by opening so many souvenir shops, this may turn museums to shopping centers which is totally inappropriate.
